AMDA New York
There is no better place in the world for you to train as an actor than in New York City. It is a center for the arts, and thousands of performers practice their craft in the city. The glamour of Broadway is legendary, but films, opera, ballet, symphonies, television, dance, oratorio, and hundreds of diverse plays are being created and performed in New York
every day. Living legends walk by you on the street. Great museums, libraries, and research centers open their doors to you. The experience of living and studying in New York City is unequaled anywhere in the world.

"I knew New York was just this cultural Mecca, but your training as an actor, as a performer, is really enhanced by your ability to even just be on a subway and look around and see all the different people and how they interact, how they talk.  There’s just no other place in the entire world like New York City and there’s so many different people, so many different walks of life – anything you want to learn about is literally at your fingertips.”
Michael Barr (Wilton, CT) graduated May 2008.

AMDA is located at 211 West 61st Street (between Amsterdam and West End Ave.) and at 2109 Broadway in an historic landmark beaux-arts building, The Ansonia.  The 61st Street location has four floors of newly renovated studios and private voice rooms, a 125-seat theatre, student lounge, newly remodeled library and the AMDA store. The AMDA store features a daily selection of sandwiches and wraps as well as healthy snack foods. Additional studios, a student lounge with a large screen television and Internet access are located in student housing at 70th Street and 85th Street. In essence, the AMDA campus is the Upper West Side, one of New York City’s favored areas.

There are many subway stations and bus routes near AMDA’s facilities and students are encouraged to take advantage of New York’s exceptional public transportation system, which is convenient and affordable. AMDA is located only two blocks west of Central Park, an 843-acre retreat in the middle of New York City and home to Tavern on the Green, Central Park Children’s Zoo and The Great Lawn. AMDA is within walking distance of Lincoln Center, The American Museum of Natural History and many shops, restaurants and cafés.  Also nearby are Broadway and Off-Broadway theatres, Times Square, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Guggenheim, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, live music venues and cabarets.

Note About Attendance and Travel

Note to all students: Make no travel plans causing you to miss classes before or after holidays. The last week of classes in all semesters is Demonstration Week. Final Demonstrations are held the last day of class (the last day of the Demo Week). It is an honor to be chosen to perform at Final Demonstrations. If you are chosen to perform with your classmates, your absence may deprive them of the opportunity to exhibit their work - particularly if you are involved in a duet or a small group. Do not make plans to leave before 5:00pm on the last day of the semester. It is important to note that when you reach your fourth semester at AMDA, your calendar may change. Fourth semester students generally start one week before all other students.
